Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, the three major giants, have suddenly announced a complete halt in the production of DDR4 memory, shifting their production capacity to high-end DDR5 and HBM chips.

The global memory market is undergoing a reshuffle dominated by DDR5 and HBM technologies: SK Hynix leads with a 49.6% market share, while Samsung's HBM is closing the gap by 2.7%. China's ChangXin Memory Technologies has seen its share surge by 600% to become a dark horse. By 2025, the scale of DDR5 is expected to exceed $20 billion. Domestic manufacturers are breaking the monopoly with their own patents and capacity expansion, ushering in a golden era for server users where performance, cost, and localization are balanced.

DDR5 is as fast as a sprinter, but DDR4 is more compatible and hassle-free; when choosing memory, it's crucial to consider platform compatibility and usage scenarios. For old computers, DDR4 offers better value for money, while new platforms should opt for DDR5 to pursue performance.

It is reported that the three major international DRAM giants, Samsung, Hynix, and Micron, all plan to cut DDR4 production. Research firm TrendForce expects the final shipment time for DDR4 from each supplier to be around early 2026.
